Tax Exempt Tax Deductible Status

We have applied for our 501(c)(3) status as of December of 2003. We are tax deductable while the application is pending according to the IRS. So - if you donate to the church of Reality you can take it off your taxes this year. However - if we eventually get turned down you might end up having to pay the taxes next year. We are still waiting for approval and it is stuck in IRS buracracy. At the rate things are going - we might be out of Iraq before we get approved.

If however - you don't have money that are a lot of other things you can do to help that don't cost anything. You can tell your friends - and you can link to us. Linking to us is important because it gets us a higher ranking in Google.

The Role of this Church

Unlike other churches, we don't have the advantage of saying that you have to give us 10% of your money because the Bible says so. We can't threaten you that you are going to burn in Hell forever for turning you back on Jesus. We're not going to use shame and guilt on you or the fear that you might piss off God. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with logic and reason. I won't get as rich at this as the big boys. But there are good reasons to donate money, and if any of these reasons appeal to you I would appreciate your help.

The goal of this church is to offer a religion that is based on reality as an alternative to religions based on mythology. Most religions are based on superstition and stories that just aren't true. The all have their holy books and their rules and customs that have little or nothing to do with the real world. Many of these religions, including Christianity, have a goal of world domination. And they want to impose their beliefs on the rest of us whether we like it or not.

I organized this church out of frustration with Christians in particular. I'm rather tired of Christians with their holier than thou attitude and their constant attempts to impose their beliefs on me and society in general. Christianity itself is evolving into a hate group as it becomes dominated by various right wing influences like the Christian Coalition which is becoming a branch of the Moonies. Christians didn't seem so bad years ago when they focused on helping people, charity, humility, and being good honest hard working people. But those days are gone and these people have evolved into threat to free thinking people you want to experiance reality the way it really is.

The reason the Church of Reality is important is that it offers an alternative to dogma based religions and allows people to see reality the way it really is. People seem to have a need for a religious identity or religious herd to join. There are a growing number of people who reject mythology and want to experiance reality, yet have no organization to identify with that supports the belief in reality as a religious identity. This religion fills a necessary gap and provides a psychological framework and a community of people who are exploring the nature of the universe and want to know the truth.

Why Donate Money

The simple answer is, because I have to eat. I would like to get this off the ground and I want to do this full time. At some point in the near future I'm going to have to find something to do for a living as my software income is dwindling. If I do something else I can't do this. I think this is important and that it is worth paying me to make it happen. Your donation could turn this into a major religion. And as the only religion dedicated to the pursuit of reality, I think it's worth it. I think it will be good for the world and the human race. And you can contribute to help make it happen.

Are you tired of all these other religions collecting billions of dollars and using that to promote a description of the world that just isn't true? Would you like to live in a world were some people look at reality the way it really is? Do you think that there should be at least one religion dedicated to the real world? Perhaps you are a scientist, a computer programmer, or just someone who looks at the Bible and says you yourself that there's no way that an onipotent being could have written something with this many errors. That if the Bible is the work of God then there's somthing wrong with God. So if you don't want Christians forcing creationism on your kids school and you want to fund an alternative religion based on seeing reality the way it really is, then you need to write a check to the Church of Reality and I'll help make it happen.

Over the last 20 years Christians in particular have evolved to become much more agressive about inflicting their beliefs on everyone else. Their mission is not only to convert the world to Christianity, but to their particular flavor of Christianity. If everyone in the world were Christians, the would still be fighting among themselves over who are the "real Christians". And real Christians have always been ready to go to war and kill people over their beliefs.

It is our belief that religious oppression by Christians and other zealots infringe on our rights and our ability to do good science. Because Christians have a fetus obscession, scientists can't do fetal tissue research necessary to cure Parkinson diseas or Alzhiemers. Religions fear cloning research because we might be "playing God". Science is a threat to primitive religious beliefs because science tends to prove that holy books like the Bible are full of errors. Anything that disproves the Bible, in their view, has got to be evil. Therefore the Christians have taken an active stance against reality. And this threat to reality is one of the main things that motivated me to start this church. To defend the pursuit of reality from those who would oppress it.

By doing good science, we might actually be able to be immortal someday. But that will never happen if the Zealots take over and oppress good science. This church actively defends your right to be real.

The Future of this Church

It seems to me that it is likely that the Church of Reality will become a major religion. We live in an age where everyone is getting a computer and connecting to the web. Kids who are raised on the internet are starting Kindergarden already knowing how to read and write. In 40 years these kids, who are going to be smarter than we are, are going to be in power. As science progresses we are looking deeper into space and time to the creation of the universe. We are unlocking the secrets of life itself and are on the verge of changing humans genetically to make ourselves live longer, give us immunity from disease and genetic defects, and to improve ourselves. Humanity is going to change drastically over the next 100 years. Who we are is who we choose to be. And we have to take charge of our destiny.

This new generation of smarter people are going to be less and less satisfied with religions based of acient mythologies that are scientifically unsound. It's pretty obvious these days that the earth was not created in six days. That there was no great flood and Noah didn't save two of everything. God isn't a mass murderer of children as depected in the Bible. As humans get smarter, the old religions will fade. What will replace these religions is yet to be seen however it is reasonable to conclude that as people get smarter, the reality itself will become more prominate. One can't help but to believe that smarter people will be interested in looking at the world the way it really is. It is therefore likely that this Church of Reality my be the predominate religion in 100 years. And you can be part of the creation of this new religion.
